From YTS to Production Manager – Keeping his career flowing at Welsh Water
21 April 2023
I started work for Welsh Water in 1991 as a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) trainee at the age of 16. My first 2 years in the business was gaining experience across Water Services working with Water Production operating Water Treatment Works (WTW) and with Water Distribution on the water mains repair teams.
I was then taken on full time with Welsh Water working with Water Production team based at Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment works in Dolgarrog operating water assets in the Conwy area as a Production Operative for 16 years. I then moved onto Team Leader and Operational Supervisor roles within the North East Production team.
To gain more experience and utilising my operational skills I was transferred to work with the Water Assets team for 3 years assisting with the delivery of major capital upgrades of water treatment works across North Wales in AMP5 working with the project team called Go to Green. Once the project was completed, I returned to the Water Production team at the start of AMP6 in the role of North East Water Production Manager from 2015 through to current date.
I was heavily involved in the design and commissioning of Bryn Cowlyd WTW a major WTW investment in AMP6. For 18 months I completed the role as North Water Production manager, with both North West & East areas reporting to one Production Manager and to develop a North management structure to support projects and delivery of service across 25 WTW in North Wales.
From 2022 my business area lead was reverted back to North East Production Manager and the DWR Plan lead for Water Production when the business reverted back to split Production Manager leads for North West and East.
Celebrated 31 years in the business September 9th, 2022.
