Apprenticeship Opportunities
During your time as an ICA technician, you'll
- Carry out planned maintenance of ICA plants and make decisions on both tasks and frequencies in order to strike a balance between regular checks and number of breakdowns.
- Respond to breakdowns on a very wide variety of ICA plant, assess problems, decide on action, acquire spares and carry out repairs as necessary.
- And recommend design changes, if necessary, to ensure that the plant continues to function efficiently and effectively in order to maintain levels of service
We work with Bridgend College to deliver this qualification. You will be expected to travel to and from college, and learning is delivered in two weeks' blocks.
The qualification you will complete will be a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance, following this a HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
For this 4 year program, A minimum of grade B in GCSE Maths, and C in English & Science (or equivalent qualifications) are required for the college element.
This is a dual skilled role, where you will learn the craft of both Electrician, and a Mechanical Fitter.
A key element of this role will be planned maintenance for all Welsh Water’s asset types including water or wastewater Treatment works, water or Sewage pumping stations and combined sewer overflows.
We work with Bridgend College to deliver this qualification. You will be expected to travel to and from college, and learning is delivered in two weeks blocks.
The qualification you will complete will be a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.

This role will give a fantastic insight into our Customer Hub, giving you the skills to develop your career, alongside a diploma in Customer Service. You'll learn from a variety of teams across our business and will support our customers using a variety of channels (social media/telephone/email).
You will need an English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will study a degree in Quantity Surveying which provides a unique chance for you to develop the qualities and skills to excel in your career.
You will receive relevant hands-on experience from day one through a structured learning programme and commercially focused placement rotation, giving you the experience and skills to develop strong commercial acumen. During term times you will study one day per week at university alongside your work-based learning.
Over the course of your apprenticeship (approximately 5 years), you'll achieve an industry accredited BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management.
You will need an English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above + either A levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma, or a HND.
Our Network Technician teams are responsible for Service Providers & associated field teams involved in the operation, maintenance & repair of our sewerage network assets.
As part of this programme, you’ll be learning;
- How to carry out investigations for flooding,
- Assist with the safe & efficient operation of the sewerage network
- Effective working with Highway Authorities with regards to Streetworks defects.
This is a 2 year programme and you will studying a HNC in Civil Engineering.
For this role, we ask that you are educated to an A-level standard or equivalent.
As part of this role, you will contribute to a course of action to resolve potential or actual Distribution or Leakage issues in order to minimise the level of inconvenience to the customer. The role will also require you to:
- Dealing with difficult situations
- Conduct Visual inspections
- Making recommendations for improvements
In this programme, you will learn:
- How to control chemical and other stock levels and consumables.
- Inducting, supervising and managing outside contractors carrying out maintenance on our equipment.
- Planning work with our supervisors while making sure we don't interrupt service to our customers.
This exciting role will see you:
- Operating sites in line with environmental permits to protect our environment.
- Taking effluent samples to monitor and improve biological performance.
- Identifying potential pollution risks from our assets, taking measures to prevent pollution and escalating when required.
This position will see you deal with our initial customer response to sewerage incidents across the business area. You will be required to undertake all tasks associated with delivering excellent customer service to all customers. You'll clear blockages, inspect our sewer networks and complete surveys, whilst also operating our CCTV equipment.
