Our next plan DWMP29
This is our proposed journey to develop cycle 2 of our plan.
We announced to our stakeholders on 5th July 2024 that we commenced the preparation of our cycle 2 plan.
Our aim for the DWMP:
This DWMP will investigate the capacity and relevant environmental risks of our drainage system and sewerage system and will undertake an assessment of current and future demands and resilience between 2030 and 2055. It will provide the sequence and timing of solutions to address risks and needs identified.
A DWMP is made up of five stages and we are currently at Stage 1 for cycle 2.
- Setting the Direction
- Strategic Risk and Options Assessment
- Tactical Risk Assessment and Options Development
- Preferred Programme
- Draft to Final Plan - Formal Consultation
Formal DWMP guidance is being updated by Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and Welsh Government (Government) and our regulators and should be available in late 2024 or early 2025. We anticipate that the stages will not change in principle but will contain greater detail.
Stage 1: Strategic Direction
We are developing our Strategic Direction which sets out how and what we will assess to produce our DWMP. Our approach is shaped by the expectations of our customers, our stakeholders, our regulators, and Governments, and will align with Welsh Water 2050. It will build on our cycle 1 plan and after consultation conclude:
- Our goals in terms of destinations
- Our outcomes which are combined objectives on a topic
- Our action plans, actions we need to take to produce the plan
We will be holding DWMP workshops later this year for those who would like to guide the plan’s development or remain informed on our progress.
Stages 2 to 5 will be added as we progress the plan development.
Engagement
We are making plans to ask stakeholders to participate in the development of the plan and to help us achieve our aim while also delivering their goals.
Firstly, we will reach out to those that would like to guide and comment on how we intend to assess risk and produce options for managing sewage and rainfall as wastewater across our operational area.
Secondly, we want to reach those that would like to participate in joint working groups at a more local level to produce pipelines of opportunities.
Please contact us via our email address stating your choice.
